Artistic Residency - Mosteiro de Seiça, Figueira da Foz, Portugal
During this two-week artistic residency, Luís Bittencourt will develop a site-responsive sound and visual installation exploring the relationships between architecture, landscape, memory, materiality and listening. Through field recording, sonic experimentation, research and engagement with the surrounding territory and community, the project will investigate how the multiple historical, social and environmental layers of a place can be transformed into artistic experience.
Rather than reconstructing or illustrating history, the creative process will explore sound as a means of revealing traces, resonances and absences. Architectural spaces, objects, materials and elements associated with local memory will become potential sound sources, contributing to an evolving investigation into the relationships between place, instrumental transformation and collective memory.
