| A Solo Percussion Concert |
Sons de Resistência |
| Works for solo percussion by Gabriel Prokofiev and Pedro Junqueira Maia |
|
| A fuel drum. A wooden pallet. Plastic bags. A distorted electric guitar. Sons de Resistência (Sounds of Resistance) turns everyday objects into instruments of resistance — a concert-manifesto that questions boundaries, institutions, and the very notion of what music is. |

| The Concept |
Everyday Objects, Radical Sound |
In a globalised, connected and technological world, marked by different forms of oppression, resistance practices emerge as disobedient lines that question the ordering and conservation principles governing life in society. Music and art have the capacity to reach places in the human mind where oppression cannot, strengthening our ability to resist — crossing institutions, questioning them, or creating new meaning.
Resist the boundaries that segregate people and cultures. Resist the oppression of identities. Resist the injustices of the contemporary world through art, making music with whatever is at hand — a refined instrument, or a wooden pallet and plastic bags. Resist the dominant aesthetic ideals that polarise the musical and the non-musical, music and noise. |

Import/Export: Percussion Suite for Global Junk (2008)
Gabriel Prokofiev · c. 33 min
Globalisation, waste, politics and economics: an unpredictable percussion solo that turns a fuel drum, a wooden pallet, plastic bags and soda bottles into sonic protagonists — innocent yet destructive messengers of an ever-hungry global market. Composed in seven “sound voyages”, the piece pairs digital processing with a strong sense of structure and melody inherited from classical tradition.

Xcuse Me While I Kiss the Sky (2010)
Pedro Junqueira Maia · c. 10 min
A tribute to John Cage and Jimi Hendrix: noises produced with paper, newspaper, plastic, pencils and stones converse with a distorted electric guitar, in a real-time interplay of improvisation and electronics — complete with a cadenza in the style of the classical solo concerto.
