Beyond the instrument concept: on Listening, Sound, Objects and Experimental Performance Practices

On May 15th, Luís Bittencourt will present a 3-hour masterclass at the ReSound Master’s Programme at Universidade Lusófona exploring experimental approaches to sound, listening, performance, and unconventional instruments.

Combining artistic presentation, audiovisual documentation, discussion, and hands-on activities, the session will address themes such as deep listening, instrumentality, improvisation, found objects, amplified materials, and experimental performance practices. Students will also be invited to share their own artistic projects and engage in collective reflection and feedback.

The class draws from Luís Bittencourt’s artistic research and interdisciplinary work involving expanded percussion, sound art, live cinema, improvisation, and experimental instrument building.
