Luís Bittencourt & Lee Ranaldo – Quick Billy by Bruce Baillie - Live Film Soundtrack - VIDEODROOM Film Fest Gent 2025

Experimental percussionist and sound artist Luís Bittencourt joins forces with legendary guitarist and founding member of Sonic Youth, Lee Ranaldo, to create a live improvised soundtrack for Bruce Baillie’s visionary film Quick Billy (1971). This special event is part of VIDEODROOM 2025, a collaboration between VIERNULVIER, Film Fest Gent, and Curtas Vila do Conde.

Quick Billy is a poetic meditation on transformation, consciousness, and the passage between life and death. Bittencourt and Ranaldo respond to its dreamlike imagery with sound — forging a spontaneous sonic landscape where analog textures, found-object percussion, extended techniques, and feedback-driven guitar merge in real time.

This performance marks a rare collaboration between two artists deeply committed to exploration, risk, and the edges of musical language. Together, they transform cinema into a living, immersive experience — raw, unpredictable, and profoundly alive.
