Luís Bittencourt is the artist in residency at Casa da Imagem, V.N. de Gaia, Portugal, from October to November, where he’s currently working on the Portuguese premiere of Gabriel Prokofiev’s massive work Import/Export: Percussion Suite for Global Junk, a 35 minute solo piece composed for a quartet of junk objects: a wooden pallet, plastic bags, an oil drum and Fanta® bottles + electronics.

During this residency, composer and researcher Tiago Lestre will be working with Luís in the live processing sounds of the piece. This performance of Import/Export will also feature films originally created by artist Flávio Almeida and marks the conclusion of the artistic research titled “Percussion and Instrumentality: Exploring the performance of Unusual Instruments and Sound Sources”, conducted by Luís in the Doctoral Program in Music Performance at Universidade de Aveiro, Portugal.
